About the Laboratory

Laboratory of Biodiversity and Marine Functional Genomics has been established at the A.O. Kovalevsky Institute of Marine Biological Research of RAS in early 2017 as a structural unit for the implementation of scientific research on the project " Deciphering the Genealogy of Cell Types via Planetary Biodiversity Capture" supported by the “megagrant” of Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (grant # 14.W03.31.0015 on Resolution No.220 of the Government of the Russian Federation of April 9, 2010). The project has been proposed by the leading scientist Leonid L. Moroz (Distinguished Professor of Neurosciece, Genetics, Chemistry and Biology, University of Florida) whom was identified as the winner of the fifth open grant competition of the Government of the Russian Federation designed to provide governmental support to scientific research projects implemented under the supervision of the world's leading scientists at Russian institutions of higher learning, research institutions of the governmental academies of sciences and governmental research centers of the Russian Federation.
